There are a number of dedicated bike trails up and down the Roaring Fork Valley which lend themselves to an enjoyable day out with the Family.
Being proximate to the Aspen/Snowmass ski areas, makes Basalt an ideal location to stay while one enjoys the slopes. In fact travel time from Basalt to Snowmass is the about the same time as travelling from Aspen to Snowmass.
There is excellent boating in the area from rafting down the rivers to taking out a sailboat or water skiing on Ruedi Reservoir, just 13 miles from Basalt.
With a myriad of hiking trails throughout the area, there is ample opportunity to walk in the surrounding wilderness areas for a day or for several days. Autumn is particularly beautiful.
